January 2015

Total spent: 116million

Wilfried Bony’s career took a turn for the worst when he joined Manchester City6
Wilfried Bony’s career took a turn for the worst when he joined Manchester City

1) Wilfried Bony Swansea to Manchester City (28million)

Wilfried Bony had been linked to Manchester City for months and arrived to provide competition for Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. But he struggled for playing time and eventually rejoined Swansea in 2017.

2) Juan Cuadrado Fiorentina to Chelsea (26.1million)

Replacing the departing Andre Schurrle, Cuadrados arrival was greeted with excitement by Chelsea fans. However, the Colombia winger started just four league games, failing to adapt to English football and hold down a regular first-team place. He is now at Juventus.

3) Gabriel Paulista Villarreal to Arsenal (14million)

Gabriel was in and out of Arsenals starting XI. Failure to fully learn English made it hard for the centre-back to command his defence. Hes now playing regularly for Valencia in La Liga.

4) Ryan Bertrand Chelsea to Southampton (10million)

After nine loan spells, Bertrand, a Chelsea academy graduate finally made the move away from Stamford Bridge. Southampton splashed the cash on the left-back following his impressive loan spell at St Marys.

5) Andrej Kramaric Rijeka to Leicester (7million)

Brought in to save Leicesters faltering season, Kramaric struggled to make his mark in the Premier League. He was loaned to Hoffenheim 12 months later before joining on a permanent deal in the summer.

January 2016

Total spent: 156million

Giannelli Imbula has been an expensive flop for Stoke6
Giannelli Imbula has been an expensive flop for Stoke

1) Giannelli Imbula Porto to Stoke (18.3million)

Stoke broke their transfer record to land Imbula. After a promising start, he fell out of favour with boss Mark Hughes. He has spent the last two seasons on loan and still has two-and-a-half years left on his deal.

2) Oumar Niasse Lokomotiv Moscow to Everton (13.5million)

Niasse will go down as one of Evertons worst ever signings. Hes started just 12 league games and has failed to convince Evertons past four managers Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva. He joined Premier League strugglers Cardiff on loan until the end of the season last month.

3) Jonjo Shelvey Swansea to Newcastle (12million)

Shelvey has been a relative success at Newcastle. He helped the club win promotion back to the Premier League in the 2016/17 season and has been a favourite of Rafa Benitez. However, numerous injuries have restricted his involvement this term.

4) Andros Townsend Tottenham to Newcastle (12million)

Townsend was only a Newcastle player for six months but the winger endeared himself to Magpies fans. He scored four goals in the second half of the season as Newcastle were relegated to the Championship. He then joined Crystal Palace.

5) Wahbi Khazri Bordeaux to Sunderland (9million)

Khazri played a key role in Sunderlands survival under Allardyce in the 2015/16 campaign. But after Big Sam left Wearside to become England manager, Khazri was used sparingly by new boss David Moyes. The Tunisia international sealed a 6million move to Saint-Etienne following Sunderlands relegation to League One last year.

January 2017

Total spent: 227million

Morgan Schneiderlin has been booed by the Goodison Park faithful in the pastGetty6
Morgan Schneiderlin has been booed by the Goodison Park faithful in the past

1) Morgan Schneiderlin Manchester United to Everton (24million)

Schneiderlin had no Old Trafford future under Jose Mourinho and needed a move. Everton seemed like the right one at the time, but a sudden loss of form over the past two seasons has seen him fail to make Silvas matchday squads on occasions.

2) Manolo Gabbiadini Napoli to Southampton (17million)

Gabbiadini scored six goals in his first four games for Southampton, including a brace in their EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester United. That is as good as it got for the Italian, who struggled for goals afterwards. He returned to Serie A club Sampdoria, who he played for between 2013 and 2015, for an undisclosed fee last month.

3) Wilfred Ndidi Genk to Leicester (15million)

Ndidi has established himself as one of Leicesters most important players. He has been an ever present in their midfield since joining from Genk.

4) Saido Berahino West Brom to Stoke (15million)

Berahino scored his first goal in more than two years in Stokes EFL Cup win over Huddersfield last August and it was also his first goal for the Potters. Hes scored just three times in the Championship this season. It just hasnt worked out for the former Tottenham transfer target.

5) Patrick van Aanholt Sunderland to Crystal Palace (14million)

Van Aanholt was reunited with Allardyce at Crystal Palace to help save them from relegation. He featured regularly under his former manager as the Eagles finished in 14th place, seven points clear of the drop zone.

January 2018

Total spent: 431million

Virgil van Dijk has been a revelation at Liverpool6
Virgil van Dijk has been a revelation at Liverpool

1)Virgil van Dijk Southampton to Liverpool (75million)

Van Dijk became the worlds most expensive defender when he joined Liverpool. In the 12 months hes been there, he has shored up a leaky defence and helped transform the Reds into Premier League title challengers.

2) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal (60million)

Aubameyang has carried on where he left off in the Bundesliga. He is the Premier Leagues second-highest scorer, behind Mohamed Salah, with 15 goals this season. He will be crucial to Arsenals top-four hopes.

3) Aymeric Laporte Athletic Bilbao to Manchester City (57million)

After being bedded into the team in the second half of last season, Laporte has become Manchester Citys first-choice centre-back. Pep Guardiola has rotated John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi to partner the Frenchman.

4) Cenk Tosun Besiktas to Everton (27million)

After scoring for fun in Turkey, Tosun has failed to replicate that form in England. He has scored eight goals for Everton and has lost his place in Silvas side.

5) Lucas Moura Paris Saint-Germain to Tottenham (25million)

Mouras arrival was the last time Tottenham were active in the transfer market. The Brazilian has been in and out of Mauricio Pochettinos team, but could get a run of games as a result of injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Christian Pulisic has lost his starting place in the Borussia Dortmund team to England winger Jadon Sancho6
Christian Pulisic has lost his starting place in the Borussia Dortmund team to England winger Jadon Sancho

1) Christian Pulisic Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea (57.6million)

The USA international was chased by Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal but sealed a move to Stamford Bridge on the second day of the transfer window. Part of the deal saw him loaned back to Dortmund for the second half of the season. He will link up with his new team-mates in pre-season.

2) Miguel Almiron Atlanta United to Newcastle (21million)

Almiron, who can play as a striker or no.10, starred in MLS and earned a move to St James Park. Hell need to hit the ground running as Newcastle aim to avoid relegation.

3) Dominic Solanke Liverpool to Bournemouth (19million)

After failing to make a single appearance for Liverpool this season, Solanke joined Bournemouth early on in the transfer window. He is yet to make his debut due to a hamstring injury, but made the matchday squad for the first time in the Cherries 4-0 win over Chelsea on Wednesday.

4) Jonny Castro Otto Atletico Madrid to Wolves (18million)

Initially joining the Premier League new boys on loan, Otto’s move was made permanent on transfer deadline day. Operating as a left-wing-back, he has starred for Wolves.

5) Chris Mepham Brentford to Bournemouth (12.2million)

Mepham was linked with a move to Bournemouth last summer, but nothing materialised. The Wales international was patient and eventually joined the Cherries last month. He will be competing with Steve Cook and Nathan Ake for a starting place.
